Late Saturday afternoon Christian Simpson (113), Eli Guttentag (132), Drew Guttentag (145) and Jeo Martinez (152) entered the Gaithersburg gym representing BCC in the “parade of champions.” The “parade of champions” highlights the top two wrestlers in each weight class among the 25 wrestling teams in Montgomery County. Eli Guttentag emerged as the sole BCC Champion, defeating Sherwood’s Paul Christenson 6-0 in the finals. The other three placed second and Aidan Moffitt (126) wrestled back from a quarterfinal’s loss to place fourth. In an exciting 15-12 consolation semifinals Aidan evened the score with Yoseph Yilma who had pinned him earlier in the year. By placing in the County tournament all five of these wrestlers are guaranteed a spot in next week’s West Regional Championship.

Kudos to Evan Wassman, Noah Bowers and Emmanuel Oladapo who all wrestled tough losing in the “blood round” (the round just before a guaranteed place).

Fabio Martinez won his first match by fall but then had to drop out because of an injury. Similarly, top-seeded Ike Guttentag was unable to compete because of an injury.

Alejandro Cubillan, David Folivi, Alhassane Kouyate and Andrew Atienza rounded out the squad representing BCC at the County Championship.

Overall the team ended up placing 5th out of 25.
