BCC Barons v. Springbrook Blue Devils
October 13, 2017, Scheduled 7:15 p.m. kickoff, Actual Kickoff appx. 7:20 p.m.
Final Score: BCC 8, Springbrook 0
On an overcast, drizzly, Friday evening, the BCC Barons 2017 Girls Soccer team traveled north to face the Springbrook High School Blue Devils. The Barons had their full Varsity squad available except Junior Defender Colleen Riley (#23) and Sophomore Midfielder Jessie Gomez, who were out due to injury. Sophomore Lane Lieberman (#10) stepped into the starting lineup to replace Gomez.
The first 20 minutes of the game saw the Barons camped out on the Blue Devilsâ half of the field, but unable to convert on several opportunities, largely due to good defense from the Springbrook goalkeeper. In the 5th minute, Senior Captain Sophia Wallach (#17) and Senior Maya Gutman (#24) lined up to take a free kick from 35 yards out, but after Gutman faked the kick, Wallach shot the ball just wide of the far goal post. In the 7th minute, Senior Claire Edelstein (#13) dribbled through two defenders, but had her shot stopped by the Devilsâ keeper, who less than a minute later, also stopped the point blank shot of Senior Captain Lili Barrett (#21).
Finally, in the 20th minute, just after the Blue Devilsâ goalie beat back another Baronsâ attempt, this time by Senior Kat Albus (#3), Junior Shelby Fountain (#1) managed to block the kick of a Blue Devilsâ defender, and while apparently trying to catch her breath after the impact of the ball knocked it out, Fountain dribbled past a defender and shot the ball past the goalie for the Baronsâ first score. BCC 1, Springbrook 0. The Springbrook goalie managed to stifle several other Baronsâ attempts before Junior Sarah Haas (#15) received a pass from Sophomore Amelia Rehrig (#2) in the 25th minute, dribbled up the left side and shot the ball into the net. BCC 2, Springbrook 0. Less than a minute later, Rehrig fed the ball to Fountain who scored her second goal against the Blue Devils. BCC 3, Springbrook 0.
Fountainâs score was followed in the 29th minute by a goal by Wallach, who got the ball from Senior Lilly Craver (#22) 35 yards out, and kicked it over the Springbrook goalieâs head. BCC 4, Springbrook 0. Wallach followed this goal with a second goal from long range in the 32nd minute. BCC 5, Springbrook 0.
At halftime, Senior Sally Egan (#99) replaced Senior Carli Boyer (#0) in the BCC goal. In the second half, the Barons continued to control the game through ball possession and increased their lead when given the opportunity, which did not take long. Less than 8 minutes into the second half, the Barons got their 6th goal when Edelstein crossed the ball from the right side of the field to the front of the Blue Devilsâ net where Barrett headed the ball into the goal. BCC 6, Einstein 0. The Barons finished the game by scoring two more goals, one in the 65th minute when Sophomore Bea Houston (#7) passed the ball to Rehrig who put the ball in the back of the net for the Barons 7th score, and the second in the 67th minute when Junior Ardyn Kesterman (#18) scored after a BCC corner kick.
Final Score BCC 8, Springbrook 0.
