Barons News · What are Virtual Sports?

As you are aware, we are starting off this school year with virtual athletics. What does that mean? It means that since we are unable to get together, in person, we are going to do the most we can do to get kids involved and engaged. There will be 3 separate virtual seasons this Fall. There will be a Fall season (September 14-October 16), a Winter season (October 26-December 4),and a Spring season(December 14-January 22). Our virtual Fall season will include all the normal Fall sports, except Poms. Poms has been moved to Winter (for virtual only!) so that kids can participate in more activities. The Winter and Spring registrations will be posted a week or so before those seasons begin. The Fall season includes: football, soccer (boys and girls), field hockey, coed golf, cross country, team handball, and girls volleyball. There will be JV and varsity. It will be up to the coaches to decide whether to split teams or keep them together. The registration form is in the “Featured” section of our athletics website. A physical is needed to participate. However, if you have a physical on file(you played a sport last year), you are eligible to participate. If you do not have a physical from last year, you will need one. Each sport will be coached by our regular coaches. They have been working on this for weeks.

A typical week could be:
Monday- coach emails team a daily, 30-40 minute workout, player does Monday’s workout
Tuesday- player does Tuesday’s workout, coach sends a link to a Sportsmanship video for players to watch
Wednesday- player does Wednesday’s workout, has a short zoom meeting, with coach and team, in the evening, to discuss video and
check in about school and workouts
Thursday- player does Thursday’s workout
Friday- player does Friday’s workout, has a zoom check-in, with coach and team, to talk about school, health, and workouts

There will be no cuts. All students will get the opportunity to get a feel for what it’s like to be on a high school team. It is our hope that kids will get to know each other and their coaches, work on general fitness, and learn skills necessary to make the teams when in-person sports are allowed.

Virtual sports will also allow us the opportunity to spend some time on our RAISE Core Values. We will learn about one core value per week. Week 1- Respect and Sportsmanship, week 2-Academic Excellence, week 3-Integrity and Character, week 4-Spirited and Safe Competition, and week 5- Equity and Access.
