On Tuesday January 23rd, the Battlin Barons competed in a Tri-Meet against undefeated Churchill and two-time defending state champion (and also undefeated this year) Damascus. First up was the match against Churchill where Gabe McAndrew (195) came back from a slow start to secure a second-period pin to get the Barons on the board. Tosin Aroyewun followed up with a 2-1 overtime victory to put the Barons ahead 9-6 after a forfeit at 220. The Barons took a couple of losses before Eli Guttentag (120) earned a forfeit victory, followed by Patrick Kirlin’s 11-3 victory at 145 lbs, and Seamus Selmi, wrestling at 152, came from behind to score six back points in the final period for an 8-4 victory. Despite the strong effort, the Barons fell 40-22. The Duals meet against Damascus produced only three Baron victories: a 15-6 major decision by Justin Smith (113), a 5-0 win by Eli Guttentag (120), and an 15-10 overtime victory by Patrick Kirlin (145). The Barons were defeated 62-10. Next up is an away match at Wootton High School, Thursday, January 26, 2017.
