Game Recap

Lady Barons Beat Kennedy Cavaliers

The B-CC Lady Barons took on the Kennedy Cavaliers on a beautiful autumn day at Kennedy, and like recent games, B-CC got lots of opportunities from corner kicks. The first came just a few minutes into the game: senior Caroline Flibbert took the kick, and put it in front of the goal. The ball went from foot to foot, with sophomore Colleen Riley taking a shot toward the goal, but it went wide. Just a few minutes later, senior Olivia Siegel passed to sophomore Emma McMillian, who shot from 20 yards out and scored. Barons up 1-0. A beautiful combination from freshman Jessie Gomez to Siegel set up McMillian for another shot on goal two minutes later, but it hit the cross bar. The Kennedy defense played high, and B-CC’s attack was interrupted several times by off-sides calls. Gomez set up an opportunity by passing to McMillian again, whose shot was high. Another corner had senior Georgia Tinsley putting the ball in play, and Siegel whacking it into the goal. 2-0. During the first half, a number of Barons took shots but couldn’t find the net, including Tinsley, Siegel, junior Sophia Wallach, senior Katie Zehner and junior Kat Albus. Starting goalie Carli Boyer was replaced by Sophia Rehrig mid-way through the first half. She had only to prove her mettle once in her time at goal – and easily saved a shot by Kennedy. With 8 minutes left in the half, junior Clare Edelstein shot and earned goal number 3. Next, sophomore Sarah Haas saw an opportunity but faced tough defense as she battled toward goal. Her efforts resulted in a corner, taken by Wallach for the Barons. The Kennedy keeper punched the shot away, and several additional corners were likewise unsuccessful at changing the score. The first half ended 3-0.

Junior Sally Egan stepped into goal for the second half, but saw minimal action as Siegel, McMillian, and Flibbert continued with the shooting onslaught. With about 20 minutes left in the game, McMillian passed the ball to senior Natalie Cady on the wing. Cady ran the ball up the sideline and shot a high, arching ball into the back of the net for the Barons’ fourth goal of the game. Not a minute later, McMillian dribbled up the field and hammered her own shot into the net from the 20. Barons 5, Cavaliers 0. B-CC had two more opportunities off corners including a perfectly placed ball by Wallach, but it was junior Lilly Craver who scored goals 6 & 7 in the last few minutes of the game. An assist from senior Rebecca Boden set up Craver for the first shot from the middle of the field and a few minutes later, Craver found the net again for a final score of Barons 7 – Cavaliers 0.
