Six Varsity wrestlers competed in the 4A/3A Regional Tournament at Sherwood High School, and five placed, with two Champions and a third place finisher qualifying for next week’s State tournament (the top four Regional placers qualify for state). Sophomore Seamus Selmi was crowned the 152 lb. champion with a dramatic 4-2 win that included a reversal in the final period. Junior Gabe McAndrew won the 195 lb. weight class also by a close 4-2 margin to add to his County Championship from the previous week. Senior Patrick Kirlin won his third place match at 145 lbs. in dominant fashion with a first period pin in under one minute. Sophomore Eli Guttentag won a major decision to finish in 5th place at 120 lbs, and and Senior Hwt. Tosin Aroyewun pinned his opponent to also place fifth. Despite only having six wrestlers at the Regional tournament, the Barons placed third in the team competition. Kirlin, McAndrew and Selmi now advance to the state tournament to be held at Show Place Arena, Upper Marlboro, Mar. 3-4.
