The Varsity wrestling team competed in the Montgomery County championships last weekend and will be sending six wrestlers on to the Regional tournament this weekend. Junior Gabe McAndrew (195) was crowned County champion when he defeated the top seed from Rockville in the finals. Sophomore Seamus Selmi (152) placed second after pinning his way into the finals. After losing a close semi-final match, Sophomore Eli Guttentag (120) pulled out a tough 2-1 victory for a third-place finish. Senior Patrick Kirlin (145) lost his semi-final match 4-3 but then shut out his opponent 5-0 in the battle for third, while Senior Tosin Aroyewun (Hwt.) after dropping a 1-0 match in the semi-finals won by a second period pin to also secure a third place finish. Freshman Christian Simpson (106) will join the five place-winners at the Regional tournament to be held Friday February 24, 2017 and Saturday February 25 at Sherwood High School.
