Barons Wrestlers Finish 4th at Severna Park Scuffle!

On Jan. 20-12, the Barons took part in the Severna Park Scuffle, an individual bracketed tournament that includes fourteen teams. After the initial pool competition, the Barons moved into the semi-finals with more wrestlers competing than any other team. Sophomore Eli Guttentag went undefeated and took first place in the 120 pound division by beating the #4 ranked wrestler 1-0 in the finals. Sophomore Seamus Selmi advanced to the finals undefeated collecting four pins along the way but lost in the finals 8-3 to the #7 ranked wrestler in the state. Junior Gabe McAndrew also advanced to the finals after knocking off the #2 ranked wrestler in the state with an overtime victory in the semi-finals before losing in the finals 5-4 in another overtime, this time coming up short (5-4) against the #3 ranked wrestler. Patrick Kirlin (145) also went undefeated in pool competition before taking a tough loss in the semi-finals but pinning his opponent to take 3rd place. Also capturing a third place finish were Freshman Christian Simpson (106) and Junior Antonio Barakat (132) who won his third-place match with a last-second takedown. Freshman Fabio Martinez (113) took 4th, as did Junior Charles Reynolds (152), with Tosin Aroyeon (Sr. Hwt.) placing 5th and Jeovanie Martinez placing 6th. The Barons finished in 4th place, just one point behind the third-place finisher,
