Game Recap

B-CC loses to QO 2-1 in regular season play
The final game of the regular season did not provide a happy ending for the Barons. For the first 20 minutes, B-CC dominated play but didn’t notch a goal against the Quince Orchard Cougars. Shots by junior Lili Barrett, a run up the side by classmate Caroline Ward, and a cross by senior Olivia Siegel to freshman Jessie Gomez could not be converted. Late in the first half, QO got around the Barons defense for a breakaway close in, junior keeper Carli Boyer came out to defend, but was unsuccessful, giving the Cougars the first goal of the game. At the other end, junior Sophia Wallach was fouled in the box, creating a PK taken by Gomez, but blocked and ultimately saved by the QO keeper. Sophomores Emma McMillian and Shelby Fountain subbed in to give the Barons fresh legs and a burst of power and speed up front. Both took shots that went wide and/or were saved by the Cougar keeper. As play moved back and forth, Boyer was kept busy in the Barons’ goal, notching several saves including one on a free kick. Her goal kick on that save found senior Caroline Flibbert in midfield, who passed to Gomez for another shot that missed its mark, going just high over the goal.

The second half opened with renewed vigor by the Barons. In the first 5 minutes of play, they earned and took 5 corner kicks, but none were converted to goals. Both teams had multiple free kicks on personal fouls, but none found the net. The QO goalkeeper defended an additional 3 corner kicks by B-CC as well as shots by Fountain, Tinsley, and fellow senior Marley Clendenin. With less than 5 minutes left to play, the Cougars found themselves charging hard at the Barons’ defense and launched a shot wide from the left, which found the goal to put them up 2-0. The Barons are focusing now on playoffs, which begin this week.
