Game Recap

Barons Defeat Richard Montgomery 3-0
September 25, 2016

It was a slow start for the Lady Barons (3-2 overall), as they took on the Rockets of Richard Montgomery, outplaying them on both ends of the field. BCC had four corner kicks in the first half, but none were converted to goals. RM also had several opportunities, but none posed a threat – all going high, to the left or to the right. The one shot that was on frame was easily handled by junior goalkeeper Carli Boyer.

BCC had numerous shots in the first half. Junior Lilly Craver had a beautiful shot from 30 yards out, and another shortly thereafter. Freshman Jessie Gomez demonstrated some serious hustle moving the ball up field. Senior Natalie Cady played a long ball to classmate Caroline Flibbert, but Flibbert was denied the goal. The first half ended scoreless.

In the second half, the Barons came out strong but the Rockets didn’t give up their fight. Freshman Greta Farkas had a long pass to Barrett, but the RM goalie came out and stopped the attack. BCC had three corners, but couldn’t convert any of them. Numerous Barons took shots on goal including Flibbert, Barrett, Cady, senior Georgia Tinsley, juniors Maya Gutman and Sophia Wallach, and sophomore Emma McMillian.

Finally, in the last 20 minutes, the Barons efforts began to yield results in quick succession. A battle in front of the goal resulted in a quick pass by Flibbert to junior Kat Albus on the wing who crossed a bending ball into the right corner of the net. Barons up 1-0. Soon after, Sophia Wallach drilled a beautiful shot off an assist by Caroline Ward for the second goal. Minutes later Tinsley took a shot, which the goalie saved, followed by a punishing shot by junior Clare Edelstein, which produced a corner. Tinsley took the corner, and freshman Lane Lieberman headed it in for the third and final goal of the game. Barons win 3-0. Seven players have scored for the Barons this year across five games, including at least one from each class, showing the breadth and depth of this year’s squad.
